It’s time, clipless pedals on the 2016 Trek Emonda S4

26 Jan

The time has arrived to finally step up my riding game. After putting more than 90 miles on my 2016 Trek Emonda S 4 it’s time to get the clipless pedals and shoes. The bike has been great to ride, quick, nimble, responsive a huge¬†upgrade from my 2014 Trex FX 7.3 hybrid bike as my beginner bike. I went with the Keo Classic 2 clipless pedals and Shimano R17 shoes.

Comments after a couple rides:
A huge improvement on riding and laying power down on the bike. Although I will need to modify the mounts it is a noticeable improvement in riding. It takes awhile to overcome the fear of having your feet fixed on the pedals but your riding will become much more efficient and smooth.

Trek Emonda S 4

I took a couple of my Trek bikes in for service and the nice folks let me go test a demo 2016 Emonda S 4 road bike. This is a great bike, smooth and fast gearing, and looks great. The seat was firmer than on my FX (I’m a newbie) but the overall feel and speed was really nice. This is the next step bike from my 2014 FX. The weather here in Florida is great for biking right now. The gearing is all in the handlebars and you have 3 different positions to hold onto the bars. The brakes felt good but I just rode on flat roads around the shop. The steering is very precise compared to my FX and the position and balancing are very different compared to the FX. This bike just wants to go, and is really smooth. The bike is $1499 and they are on sale for $1299. I reckon you check it out.

Suzuki GSXR 1000R

While attending the OrlandoIX conference I decided to walk over to the AIMEXPO to check out some motorcycles.

This here is the new 2017 GSX-R1000R limited edition sport bike. This bike has been labelled as the “The King of Sportbikes” and boy it is a sexy machine! This is basically a track race bike tuned for the street, and your either a speed enthusiast, racer, or just plain nuts to want this rocket bike. It features a new aluminum frame, and engine has a unique variable valve timing system connected via Ride-By-Wire throttle for a huge power band delivery. I’ve always been a fan of F1, MotoGP, and speed.

However as much as I admire these bikes, I’m quite happy on my Trek road bike, because this thing is pure freaking danger. Maybe one day, for now I’ll be an admirer. The pricing has not been announced yet. You can gather all the details online here.
